Wereworld: Rise of the Wolf, by Curtis Jobling

By on February 13, 2012

The kids of Worthing High School share their thoughts on the first in this fantasy series.

‘YOU’RE THE LAST OF THE WEREWOLVES SON. DON’T FIGHT IT . . . CONQUER IT.’

When the air is clear, sixteen year-old Drew Ferran can pick up the scent of a predator.

When the moon breaks through the clouds, a terrifying fever grips him.

And when a vicious beast invades his home, his flesh tears, his fingers become claws, and Drew transforms . . .

Forced to flee the family he loves, Drew seeks refuge in the most godforsaken parts of Lyssia. But when he is captured by Lord Bergan’s men, Drew must prove he is not the enemy.

Can Drew battle the werecreatures determined to destroy him – and master the animal within?

This book was absolutely amazing, I loved the characters and how they reacted to each other.

My favourite character was definitely Drew he was very brave and loyal to his friends.

At the start of the book Drew has no idea of what he can do…

When I first saw this book I did not expect it to be like this. I thought it was the type of book where a boy turns into a wolf at midnight and goes on a killing spree and then he wakes up in the morning and has no idea what happened. I was very wrong in this sense because he shape shifts when he wants to.

I would recommend this book to people who like action and horror because it contains lots of it.

Basically I LOVE this book

Ben

An amazing book, bit boring at the start though!!!

I loved the part when the mother said ” you’re not normal drew” and that was when i got into the book!

Wereworld Rise Of The Wolf is the first of a series of two, soon to be three. It is all about the seven realms and the Werelords. Werelords are people who have the ability to shape shift into a certain animal.

Drew is the true heir to the throne, he is the last of the werewolves and is the only hope to restore order to the seven realms and defeating the lion king.

It is a great book and would I recommend it to anyone who likes the mixture of fantasy, adventure and horror. I have never tried this type of book before and I absolutely loved it! Give it a try even if you do not normally enjoy this genre.

It is not the normal full moon and everything changes type of book. It is a shape shifting book with a twist!

I thought Wereworld was a really good book. It’s a really interesting mixture of fantasy, adventure and horror. From the very start you’re completely hooked as you read about Drew and his, you could say, fantastical origins. You might think that it’s going to be another werewolf book, with the full moon blah blah blah, but it’s nothing like that.

At first, Drew has no idea who he truly is, but it all comes out after a very…interesting night. You read about how he finds out about the Werelords of Lyssia and travels far and wide, meeting some really interesting characters along the way. I love the fact that it’s not just werewolves, but all different kinds of Werelords, from Werebadgers to Werelions, as well as Werehorses and Werestags.

Wereworld is an amazing book for anyone who likes fantasy and adventure, but not if you’re at all squeamish. Although, I’m not too keen on horror or gore and I still loved the book, so much that I’ve read the second- Wereworld, Rage of Lions- and am eagerly awaiting the third. Curtis Jobling is a fantastic author, and I think most people would love the books.

I thought that Wereworld was a great book, as soon as I started reading it I almost knew something dramatic was going to happen, it did!

It’s a really interesting book, fantasy, adventure and horror. I thought that it would be the normal werewolf/moonlight transformation, I was wrong. I didn’t expect Drew (with practice) to be able to control when and where he shape shifted.

I recommend this book to people who like fantasy/adventure, and people who like Beast Quest and stuff like that. These books are amazing.

Luke

The start of what looks to be a great fantasy adventure series. I really wasn’t sure what to expect, I thought it would just be one of those ‘man turns into Werewolf when there is a full moon’ saga. But far from it, Wereworld has so much to it with different Werelords, all with different beasts within them, from badgers and lions to wolves. Drew is the main character who knows nothing about his hidden background. He has been brought up by people he thinks are his parents. One night however everything changes and his life will never be the same again and he enters the world of the Werelords. I won’t tell you any more as I don’t want to spoil it but do give it a go it is fab!

When I first received the book to read for my school book club, I wasn’t too sure how much I was going to enjoy it. It didn’t look like a book I would normally choose, but I thought I’d give it a go. I started reading and found myself losing the story line and was rather disappointed and I felt the pace of the story was rather slow, therefore it lost my interest. I continued to read on, trying to stick with it but in the end it bored me.

The main character is sixteen year old Drew Farran; he is the last of the werewolves. When a vicious beast invades his home, Drew Transforms into a werewolf. He seemed quite boring, depressive and quiet and I couldn’t follow his mood all the time.

I would mainly recommend this book for boys who like adventure stories with a bit of fantasy and action. Don’t put this book off forever; I didn’t enjoy it but you might. Even though I didn’t enjoy the subject, it was well written and thorough.
